Samsung announced the Galaxy S6 earlier this week at Mobile World Congress 2015. The new handset is a complete about-face with the design on which Samsung has relied for so many years. Gone is the plastic body from previous Samsung Galaxy handsets – now we have a full metal and glass exterior with the Galaxy S6.
With the phone being completely sealed, there is no way to swap the battery or add additional memory via a microSD card, as with its predecessors. The step up in quality though just might be want Samsung needs.
The good news is that the 2550mAh battery chargers 1.5x faster than the Galaxy S5 battery; and the Galaxy S6 offers wireless charging. Samsung cites that a 30 minute charge will give you about 30% battery life.
The S6 is available increased internal drive space with 32GB, 64GB or 128GB storage available, along with 115GB free Microsoft OneDrive storage for two years.
The screen size of the Galaxy S6 remains the same 5.1 inches but gets a bump in resolution to 2560 x 1440 pixels, which yields 577ppi. A Samsung Exynos 7 series 64-bit octa-core processor powers the S6 and it features 3GB RAM. Android 5.0 Lollipop is loaded with a less intrusive TouchWiz skin.
The Galaxy S6’s camera is a 16MP sensor with a f/1.9 lens, which bests the f/2.2 lens on the Galaxy S5. Additionally, the lens features optical image stabilization. The front camera has a 5MP sensor with a 120° wide angle lens.
The fingerprint reader is improved as well with an eye toward Samsung Pay for mobile payments due in the second half of 2015 in the US.
The Samsung Galaxy S6 will launch on April 10, although pricing has not yet been announced.
